Snacks and a Show

Hello beautiful bloggers of WordPress! Today on this rainy Tuesday I decided it was a great day to post something for you all to read. It is the perfect recipe for a wonderful girls night in with your friends. Although my roommates and I are all very different there is one thing we can agree on, the show Jane the Virgin is a hit and that chocolate mixes good with just about anything. So knowing this I wanted to share with you a great salty and sweet recipe and a review of a amazing new show. I hope you all enjoy.

First, the recipe. It’s a delicious recipe that I know many of you have probably had a few times and there are a million recipes for it online but I use the one given to me by my mom that she found in a magazine once many years ago. They are a quicker version of chocolate covered pretzels and in this magazine they are called Holiday Pretzels.

Salty and Sweet treat

A bag of Square or waffle shaped pretzels
Hershey Kisses or Hershey Hugs (the more the better)
M and M’s

Baking information:

1. Preheat the oven to 170
2. Put pretzels on a baking sheet and then place one unwrapped Hershey Kiss in the center of each pretzel
3. Put the pretzel and Hershey Kiss combo in the oven for 4 to 6 minutes
4. Once the Kisses are cooked throughly and are not hard in the center take them out of the oven and push a M’n’M in the center of each Kiss and pretzel combination.
5. Let them cool for about 30 minutes to an hour (it helps to stick the pans in the refrigerator) and enjoy!

Tip from me: These are a holiday favorite of mine to give as a gift inside a holiday mug or a filler inside of a present. People love them and they take little to no time and effort. In my experience Hershey Hugs (of the milk chocolate and white chocolate kisses) tend to melt faster than the regular kisses so if you plan on doing mixed and matched kisses do them on separate trays.

Next we picked a show and like I said Jane the Virgin is a new classic that we enjoy and agree on.

Jane the Virgin

Jane the Virgin is a hit new show that aires on CW Mondays at 8pm. Although Mondays tend to be pretty busy at my house my roommates and I bring the show up on CW’s website and stream it through our television this way. This show is about a young virgin named Jane who has been dating her boyfriend for 2 years and then one day accidentally gets inseminated (I know that’s a scary thought! Ladies always stay awake at your gynecologist appointments!). A few weeks later she finds herself at the doctors who then tell her that she is pregnant despite her virgin status. The plot takes an even bigger twist when you find out that the sperm’s owner had cancer and he saved his sperm before he had a surgery that left him infertile, and that man happens to be someone that Jane had a mega-crush on way back before she met her current long time boyfriend. This show navigates the crazy twists and turns that Jane’s life now has in store for her and her family, which always leaves the audience laughing and wanting to know what happens next. This show is hilarious and whimsical and I would recommend it to any young girl who wants to fall in love with the characters and get caught up in mystery, drama, and chaos.

I hope you all enjoy these great shows and snacks! Here are some new things to look forward to: Why I went greek, a home-made dog biscuit recipe, All the movies I’ve watched in 2014, and more. Have an amazing day!

An Autumn Overview

Autumn is made of sugar, pumpkin spice, and everything else that is so so nice!

Hello dear world of WordPress!

So I have been meaning to do this for a while since December has started but it turns out the Winter season does not officially start (despite the stores’ eager decorators) until December 21st. But like everyone else my Autumn was jam packed with fun times and friendly people. Here’s a quick personal overview of what has kept me busy and off of my blog these past few months. Enjoy the top five moments that have happened to me this past Autumn!

1. I was voted to be our Homecoming court representative

Homecoming Court Photo

This is by far the most exciting things that happened to me this fall. Although I did not get to continue on and win the title it was amazing to see the support and faith that my sisters had in me.

2. I got to meet Phi Mu’s national president, along with some other amazing Phi Mu leaders!

Phi Mu Leaders

This is one moment that I know I will treasure well after I graduate. My chapter of Phi Mu was the top fundraiser, now for two years running, of a philanthropy competition and we got to have a dessert reception of some national Phi Mu leaders. This is yet another reason why I love my organization!

3. I won a stand up comedy show!

Comedy Show

This was something that was out of my comfort zone and unexpected but it was so rewarding. I donated my 100 dollars worth of winnings to the philanthropy of the fraternity who put on the event which was men’s health!

4. I was busy trying all the pumpkin sweet treats that I could get my hands on!

Pumpkin Spice

This was definitely something I enjoyed! I love pumpkin flavored anything but I think one of the strangest things I ate was the pumpkin pie yogurt. That was definitely just a one time taster!

5. I turned 22!

I am a fairly low-key kind of girl so my birthday celebration was quite the same. I made a few of my close friends over for pizza, ice cream, and chick flicks and the next day my boyfriend drove out to take me out for paddle boating (as pictured above) and a picnic. What more could a girl ask for?

These moments have by far been my favorite moments of this Autumn and I am so thankful for those who got to enjoy them with me. Hopefully after finals, which happen to be going on right now, I will be able to blog a bit more for you all. But ta-ta for now dear blogging buddies!

‘Tis the season to start knitting

Hey everyone! I am so sorry it’s been a while since I have posted! I have watched so many movies I wish I could have posted about and tried so many yummy foods I should have written about. But lately my favorite thing I have been working on is most definitely my knitting. It was a little over a year ago, actually it was Thanksgiving day 2013, when I decided I wanted to teach myself how and searched in the basement until I found yarn and needles! Although I do not get to knit often, since I am in my final year of college, but lately I have been whipping out infant sized hats with handmade pompoms! I just got some baby soft pink yarn (pictured below) and I am excited to start many more projects! For those who are scared to try something new or start a new craft give knitting a try! I watched YouTube videos until I understand and I think that it’s easier than people think. Give it a try! ‘Tis the season to start knitting Y’all!

Dinner and a Movie 1

Hello my lovely followers. I decided that one series I would love to do for this blog will be a dinner and a movie series. This series will be a movie review to a movie that I have recently watched along with a recipes that I have tried. I hope you all love the idea as much as I do, especially because today I am posting my first one!

The Recipe: Copycat Panera Mac and Cheese!

Panera Copycat

The Ingredients you will need:

Mac'n'Cheese Ingredients

  • All Purpose Flour
  • Heavy Cream
  • Dijon Mustard
  • American Cheese
  • Kosher Salt
  • Vermont Cheddar Cheese
  • Unsalted Butter
  • Hot Sauce
  • Noodles
  • Optional: Milk

Here is the blog link to the recipe itself!

This recipe was delicious! Although we ended up adding in a splash of skim milk, along with the heavy cream added, into the cheese sauce before mixing in the noodles I found it to be scrumptious. This recipe fed four hungry college girls and still gave us a big tupperware of leftovers. It tasted like Panera’s recipe and it made for a fun evening of cooking and laughter! We paired this entree with a side salad and small french baguettes (bought in a pack at Walmart) to scoop up the cheese and noodles with. Recipe tip: 4oz of cheese turns out to be about six slices.

The Movie: If I Stay

If I Stay: If I stay is a story about the a high school-aged girl who gets into a horrific car accident with her family, and finds herself deciding whether she wants to stay alive or give up on life. This movie was extremely emotional and had me on the edge of my seat as we watched events that led up to the crash as told through the young girl’s eyes. It took you through the stages of a relationship and through the twists and turns of life leading up to the decide that she has to make. Although at first it seems as though there would be an easy answer the movie makes you question whether you would do the same choice she made. There were many tears shed and comfort foods consumed after watching this heart wrenching storyline fall into play. Overall, I throughly enjoyed this movie and it was a great flick to see with your girlfriends, especially if it’s rainy and everyone needs a good cry.
